Home health care for seniors
Home care is a great service that helps seniors live at
home as long as possible. Much of the care that is provided in a nursing home
long term can also be delivered to the home of the elderly. It is commonly used
by the elderly who need to recover from an illness or injury. The care is
generally provided by licensed, therapists and caregivers in home nursing.
How can I get home health care ?
If the doctor or hospital does not suggest health care
at home, you can always ask them and an assessment can be done. You can also
contact a home health agency directly yourself. Qualified nurses, occupational
and physical therapy, and speech therapy can help at home. Once the patient is
referred by a doctor, a qualified nurse will be out of your home and make the
initial assessment to see if you are eligible for health care at home. The
nurse will also determine if you need other services such as physical or
occupational therapy to help with the work and activities of daily life. A
speech therapist may be necessary to assess swallowing or dietitian to help
bring good nutrition may be necessary. The plan of home care is discussed with
the patient and family as needed. The nurse then reported to the doctor and get
the necessary commands.
What health care at home do ?
Home care is primarily responsible for the medical
aspect of being at home, but there is also a component of home care consisting
of a home health aide to help with bathing and light cleaning. Most home health
care is for a specified period of time, that is, until the patient has
improved. But there are times when this service is needed on an ongoing basis,
such as when a catheter needs to change every month.
Medicare will pay for most services if the doctor gives
a referral, the patient is home bound and in need of intermittent nursing,
physical therapy, or speech therapy, and home health agency approved by the
Medicare program. If you have the means, all these services can be purchased
out of pocket.
Home care is a great service that allows seniors to stay
in their homes as long as possible.
